Tests typically take no more than two minutes and depending on the time of collection lab results can be available the same day or within 24 hours.

Progressive COVID-19 Antibody Blood Testing

We are offering an FDA EUA-authorized antibody test with a simple blood test designed to detect the body’s natural immune response to the COVID-19 virus infection. Antibody tests may be helpful to individuals who do not currently have symptoms but believe that they may have been previously infected with the COVID-19 virus.

  • A positive result can help you and your healthcare provider determine when to return to work and/or reconnect with friends and family.
  • A negative result indicates that you have not been infected with the COVID-19 virus. Your healthcare provider can help you determine how best to remain vigilant about your exposure to the virus.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if I have any test-related questions, including those about portal registration, login issues and tech support?

Who should get tested for the COVID-19 Virus?

This test is for those who are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 including the following: fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell, or are believed to have been exposed to COVID-19 in the past 14 days. Testing may also be required prior to various medical procedures or travel restrictions.

When should you get tested for the COVID-19 Virus?

You should test for the COVID-19 virus when you have symptoms or believe you have been exposed to COVID-19 in the past 14 days.

Who should get tested for COVID-19 Antibodies?

This test is for those who are asymptomatic and who think they may have had the COVID-19 virus, or exposure to it, but have not experienced symptoms in at least 10 days.

What type of PCR test is this?

We perform a PCR Nasal Swab, which is a shallow minimally invasive anterior nares swab. The swab will only be inserted into the lower nostrils. (This is different than the invasive uncomfortable nasopharyngeal swab, which is needed to be inserted all the way into the cavity between the nose and mouth). If a patient is sensitive to even shallow minimally invasive anterior nares swabs, we can also offer a throat swab, please speak with the collection technician if this is the case.

How is the COVID-19 Antibody test sample collected?

The COVID-19 antibody test sample is collected through a simple painless blood draw.

Does a positive Antibody result mean that I am positive for the COVID-19 virus?

No, a positive result (“Detected”) means that your immune system has developed antibodies to combat the COVID-19 virus. It also means that you have been previously infected by the COVID-19 virus and that you may have some level of immunity to the COVID-19 virus.

Billing

How much does each COVID-19 test cost?

Antibody Test

If I use insurance
The CARES Act ensures that testing is free (no copays, no patient balance). Progressive Diagnostics will bill all commercial insurance and government plans $120 per IgG & IgM antibody test. Patients may see this charge on an Explanation of Benefits (EOB), but they will not receive an invoice from Progressive Diagnostics while the test is covered by the CARES Act.

If I pay cash
The cash pay price for an Antibody test is $120 per IgG & IgM antibody test.

COVID-19 PCR Test

If I use insurance
The CARES Act ensures that testing is free (no copays, no patient balance). Progressive Diagnostics will bill all commercial insurance and government plans $150 (code U0004) and $25 (code U0005) for each COVID-19 PCR test. Patients may see this charge on an Explanation of Benefits, but they will not receive an invoice from Progressive Diagnostics while the tests are covered by the CARES Act.

If I pay cash
The cash pay price for a COVID-19 PCR test is $150 per test.

How do I pay for my COVID-19 test?

If you give us your insurance information we will charge your insurance for the COVID-19 test, and there are no copays. You will see this charge on an Explanation of Benefits, but you will not receive an invoice from the lab while the tests are covered by the CARES Act.

If you are an uninsured US citizen your COVID-19 tests will be covered by the CARES act and the CT state will pay for your test. You should then enter “uninsured” when you book your appointment.

If you are not a US citizen, or if you prefer to pay cash for your test, the cost is $150 / PCR test, and $60 / Antibody test. You will need to enter your credit card information when you book your appointment and the payment is *non-refundable (*unless the test was not performed).

If you need your test solely for travel, and none of the other COVID-19 test reasons questions you are asked while booking your test apply to you, you will be asked to pay cash for your test. You may yourself however, be able to send in the claim to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Why did I receive a bill, even though I gave you my insurance?

First, please make sure it is an invoice and not an Explanation of Benefits. There is no patient responsibility for COVID-19 tests. But if you still have questions or believe that you have received an invoice for your COVID-19 test, please call our billing department at: 888.403.7049, and we will be able to answer any questions you may have.

I received a check from my insurance company for the COVID-19 test. What should I do?

This check is a payment to the lab for the test performed, and should be mailed directly to:

Progressive Diagnostics

Trumbull, CT 06611

Lab Report/Results

How do I print my lab report?

Once your lab report is posted on your account, select the “two pages” icon on the left of the collection date. A pop-up window will appear with your results for you to print. If the pop-up window does not appear, please turn off pop-up blockers on your device. (See below how to turn off pop-up blockers).

Turn pop-ups off

  • Click the Customize and control Google Chrome menu (the three horizontal bars in the upper right corner).
  • Select Settings.
  • Click the Show advanced settings… at the bottom.
  • Under Privacy, click the Content Settings button.
  • To disable the pop-up blocker check the Allow all sites to show pop-ups box.
  • To enable pop-ups on specific sites, check Do not allow any site to show pop-ups (recommended) and click Exceptions and enter the URL(s).
What do my COVID-19 Virus test results mean?

A positive result means you have an active COVID-19 viral infection and should immediately call your health care provider to share your results. Self-quarantine will help prevent the spread of the virus and protect those around you. If the results are negative, you do not currently have an active viral infection. It is however possible to have a very low level of the virus in the body with even with a negative test result.

How fast will I get my COVID-19 Virus test results?

The COVID-19 virus test results are reported within 24 hours through a HIPAA compliant online portal.

What is your lab’s turnaround time (TAT) for the COVID-19 tests?

If you test before 12 pm you will have your results the same day, if you test after 12 pm you will have your test results the next day. Our TAT is on average 24 hours for both the PCR and the antibody tests. Please note that TAT is not a guarantee, the wait times for lab results may be delayed due to increase in testing demand and holiday closures.

Can I get my result within 72 hours for my flight/procedure/appointment where I need to show a negative PCR test?

Yes! However, do not wait until last minute. Although our average TAT for all tests is within 24 hours, we suggest taking your test 72 hours before your flight/procedure/appointment. This will leave a buffer just in case there is a need to rerun a test (a rare occurrence).

What certifications/credentials does your lab have?

Progressive Diagnostics is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA), COLA and the State of Connecticut to perform high complexity laboratory tests. These certifications are also required by the FDA to perform a PCR test.

Progressive Diagnostics is offering complete FDA EUA-authorized COVID-19 testing solutions for individuals, organizations and communities.
